“Wonderful, it shouldn’t be too long a walk back to the cottage.” She smiled and began to turn toward the direction she had come from. She turned back to Meg after her statement. “I have met far more dangerous people in these woods trust me, and I couldn’t just leave you to fend for yourself.” If Belle was honest with herself she wasn’t sure why she had invited Meg back to her home, but it seemed like the right decision. “Though now I am hoping that I have nothing to fear from you,” she said as she turned back to the path.
“Ah, well, I appreciate that then,” Megara said with a small smile. She was still uneasy, but the cause of that wasn’t Belle. Being in the woods wasn’t exactly just a walk in the park. Megara belonged in the city. Snorting at Belle’s comment, Megara shook her head. “Nope, I’m as harmless as they come.” A lie, but it was all that Belle really needed to know. Megara knew how to defend herself and also how to kill, but when she told people this it really didn’t go over well. She stopped explaining her past years ago.
“This it?” she asked as a small cottage came into view.
“It is my pleasure like I said I couldn’t just leave you all alone.” She smiled and continued to guide them though the woods. Belle nodded as Meg told her she was harmless, but could almost detect something underneath that, like she wasn’t really telling the whole truth. But she shrugged in off and the kept on in silence till Meg spoke up again. Belle had been so concentrated on going the right way she hadn’t noticed they had made it.
“Oh yes this is my home,” she quickly moved up the steps and unlocked the door, “Please come in, I will throw some more logs and on fire and get you some tea to warm up.” She said smiling.
“I am glad you want to see them. I did enjoy my time there, I recommend going there. I also bought the style of dress they wear there and it is so much more functional than wearing the full skirts and corsets, though I kept my corset on. Bugs? As in ants and spiders?” She asked, flipping through pages of one of the books. It was on the architecture of Thebes and the different buildings they have.
“I will have to add that to my list of places to go.” She said smiling. “They do not wear corsets, how interesting now I really can’t wait to see these dresses.” She laughed a little at Cindy’s question. “Oh no not ant and spiders, it is just not perfected Papa still has a few things that he needs to fix in order to have it work.”
“It was lovely and Meg taught me how to swim, but,” She looked around, leaning forward, “It was in our undergarments! In the river! It was fun though.” She smiled. ”it was most relaxing to not have the corset. Perhaps the dress I make you will be in the Roman style as they had?” She asked. ”Oh, I see what you mean, bug as in not ready yet.”
Belle giggled as Cindy leaned in. “Oh that sounds so exciting, but I am surprised you did not know how to swim before then” She said looking perplexed. “I can just imagine how nice it must have felt and how freeing,” she smiled. “I think the Roman style would be just wonderful, though I am sure I will love any dress you make me Cindy. And yes Papa’s inventions always have a way of not working at first.” She said smiling wider.
“Yes I believe you are right about that.” She smiled back. “Well the village I am from is very small and not really worth all the trouble, but if you want to see France at its best you should visit Paris.” She said fondly thinking of her old home. “The city is just so magical it is hard to describe.”
Tiana sighed. Paris. She could only imagine visiting that city. It would be absolutely wonderful. So much of New Orleans was based on French culture. Seeing the capital of France would be a dream come true. “I’m sure the food is amazing!” she gushed. “I can only imagine how amazing it is there. Do you go to Paris all the time?”
Belle smiled at Tiana’s excitement about the food. “Oh yes the food is wonderful, fresh bread and all sorts of other things.” She remembered running around the market as a little girl, some of the nicer merchants would always give her something good to eat.
Belle stilled at Tiana’s next question. “No I am afraid I have not been to Paris in many years,” she smiled at bit sadly thinking of all the memories she had there, “I have not been back there since my mother died.”
